Ayvani Hope Perez, 14, was kidnapped by two armed men during a home invasion Sept. 17, 2014, in Clayton County, Ga. Her kidnappers demanded a $10,000 ransom later that day before Perez was found the next day.

This March 1932 newspaper clipping shows Charles A. Lindbergh Jr., son of aviator Charles Lindbergh. The baby was kidnapped from his Hopewell, N.J. home on March 1, 1932, and his body was found several miles away on May 12, 1932. Bruno Richard Hauptmann, a German immigrant, was convicted and executed for the murder in 1936.

In one of his final acts of office, President Bill Clinton on Saturday, Jan 20, 2001, granted clemency to Hearst, who was kidnapped in the 1970s by the radical Symbionese Liberation Army and later went to prison in connection with a bank robbery. Hearst, the granddaughter of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, was kidnapped February 4, 1974, and captured September 18, 1975. Hearst claimed she'd been brainwashed by her captors.

An undated family photo of 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart who was abducted at gunpoint from her Salt Lake City home around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002. Brian David Mitchell, of Salt Lake City, is serving life in federal prison for Smart's abduction. Mitchell forced a window open at the Smart home, threatened Smart's then 9-year-old sister and said he would harm Elizabeth if her sister said anything. Smart was in captivity for nine months.

Tightly handcuffed and closely guarded by FBI men is accused kidnapper Gary Steven Krist as he leaves the hospital in Fort Myers, Fla., where he was arraigned, Dec. 23, 1968. Krist was charged with the kidnapping of Barbara Jane Mackle, who was taken from an motel in Atlanta, Ga., and found buried in a box in North Georgia after her father paid $500,000 ransom. Krist is being held in the Dade County Jail at Miami. Krist's accomplice in the kidnapping was his girlfriend Ruth Eisemann-Schier. Mackle was rescued alive. Krist spent 10 years in prison before being paroled. He later practiced medicine in Indiana before his license was revoked in 2003. In 2006, Krist was again arrested, this time on drug charges, and was released in Nov. 2010.

Frank Sinatra, Jr., tells a news conference outside his mother's home, "I was scared." The slender 19-year-old singer emerged from his mother's mansion this afternoon for his first talk with newsmen since his abductors freed him early December 11, 1963. Standing beside his mother Nancy, he described his emotions but declined any details of his ordeal saying he couldn't discuss it until the FBI completed questioning him. A $240,000 ransom was paid to Sinatra's captors, who were arrested.

Ed Ray, the school bus driver hailed as a hero for helping 26 students escape after three men kidnapped the group and buried the entire bus underground in 1976 died on Thursday, May 17, 2012. He was 91.

Fashion designer Calvin Klein speaks to reporters during a joint news conference called by the New York City police department and the FBI, Feb. 4, 1978, to announce the arrest of three people in connection with the kidnapping of Klein's 11-year-old daughter Marci. On the table in front of Klein is the $100,000 ransom Klein paid the abductors. Others are unidentified.

Kenneth Young, 11-year-old son of a Beverly Hills, Calif., financier, was returned home safely after a $250,000 ransom was paid to his kidnappers authorities said today. He is the son of Herbert J. Young, 35, president of Gibraltar Savings and Loan Association. Years later and IRS agent and an ex-con were discovered to have perpetrated the kidnapping.
