The Democratic presidential debate set to take place in southwest Atlanta on Wednesday will snarl traffic and clog up a couple of main cross streets in the West End area, according to Atlanta fire spokesman Sgt. Cortez Stafford.
There are no road closures expected near the debate site, but Stafford still expects some congestion near Tyler Perry Studios, 315 Deshler St.
“There may be some congestion at Lee Street and Astor Ave or Lee Street and Langford Pkwy as that is near the entrance to the complex,” Stafford wrote in an email Tuesday.
Since attendees will be bused from a separate location, the traffic is not expected to be overwhelming for the area, Stafford said.
The debate will take place from 9 to 11 p.m., and a Democratic debate Pro-Life Democrat Rally will be held at Tyler Perry Studios about 5 p.m.
Ten candidates will take the stage, including former Vice President Joe Biden; U.S. Sen. Cory Booker; South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg; U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard; U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris; U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar; U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders; billionaire activist Tom Steyer; U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren; and entrepreneur Andrew Yang.
