A driver arrested in multiple hit-and-run crashes that snarled traffic Tuesday on Ga. 400 had marijuana in his system when he was taken into custody, police said.
Sandy Springs police have accused 19-year-old Robert Michael Barbour of DUI and reckless driving in three hit-and-run wrecks in their jurisdiction, but they believe he may be responsible for other wrecks in other jurisdictions as he made his way south on Ga. 400.
Investigators shut down multiple southbound lanes in the area of Hammond Drive on Tuesday after Barbour was taken into custody. While at least three vehicles were damaged, no injuries were reported, according to Sandy Springs police Sgt. Salvador Ortega.
Ortega said other drivers called 911 after they were hit but said they would make full reports when they got off the road.
The traffic snag caused several hours of delays for drivers on the Northside, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Barbour, who is from Alpharetta, is facing multiple charges out of Sandy Springs, including three counts of hit-and-run, fleeing and attempting to elude and marijuana possession. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail, according to police.
On Sunday, Sandy Springs police investigated another multiple hit-and-run case that resulted in the death of a 25-year-old man. Michael Farmer and his dog were hit and killed while walking on Hammond Drive.
Investigators have accused Dominique Houston, 38, of Newnan, of hitting Farmer while she was speeding away from another hit-and-run accident in the area of Roswell Road and I-285. She was later located in Newnan and arrested.
