A 77-year-old woman was killed Thursday afternoon when a 19-year-old man parked at the Cascade Road Applebee’s put his car in reverse and hit her.
The fatal accident occurred about 2:10 p.m. in the parking lot of the restaurant in the 3600 block of Cascade Road, Fulton County police Lt. Scott McBride told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The driver, identified as Jerrell Acklin, “did stay on scene,” McBride said. “He did not try to run. But he is being charged with homicide by vehicle.” Acklin, who was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, “had just picked up food and was leaving” when he struck the victim, McBride said.
The woman’s body was removed from the scene about 4 p.m.
Officials did not immediately release the victim’s name, but Channel 2 Action News reported that a family member at the scene identified her as Mabel Benning.
