Atlanta police officers responding to reports of a shooting at a downtown apartment building Friday found a woman suffering from multiple wounds inside and a man who had fallen to his death outside.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed that the man’s death was a suicide and identified him as 33-year-old Anthony Adams.

The investigation began when officers were called to the Altitude Apartments at 250 Piedmont Avenue just before 2:30 p.m. for a person shot, police said. When they arrived, they first were told about Adams, who had fallen from high in the building.

Inside an apartment unit, officers found a 31-year-old woman with both stabbing and gunshot wounds, police said. She was considered critical when she was taken to the hospital.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the woman was found on the 19th floor, the same floor from where the man fell.

“Preliminary information indicates these incidents may be related and the fall may have been self-inflicted,” police said in a statement.

No further information was released about Adams, including the nature of his relationship with the woman. According to publicly available records, Adams did not have a criminal history. He had registered for a hunting license in 2021 and owned a business called Priceless Worldwide, LLC.
