Part of busy Peachtree Street in Midtown was shut down for hours due to police activity in the area.

Lanes in both directions near the Savannah College of Art and Design at 1600 Peachtree Street were blocked due to a suspicious package but have since reopened to traffic, according to officials. The package appeared to be near a statue just in front of the college and was eventually blown up by police, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Authorities did not say what was inside the package but confirmed it was “nonhazardous.”

“At this time, no injuries (and) no damage has been reported,” police spokesman Benjamin Hopson said.
