‘Serial burglar’ who targeted Buckhead, Midtown businesses arrested, police say

Atlanta police announced the arrest of Michael Goldberg, who is accused of being a serial burglar who targeted businesses, most of them restaurants, in the areas of Buckhead and Midtown.

A man suspected in a long series of commercial burglaries, most of them in Buckhead and Midtown, was arrested Wednesday, Atlanta police announced.

Michael Goldberg, 59, has been accused of committing at least 12 burglaries at businesses in Atlanta, police said in a news release Friday. He was taken into custody in southeast Atlanta without incident and has been booked into the Fulton County Jail without bond.

Goldberg has been charged with 14 counts of second-degree burglary and three counts of second-degree criminal damage to property, jail records show. The charges all stem from burglaries committed during October.

“We are confident this arrest has prevented burglaries from occurring at other businesses within the city,” Atlanta police said. “We could not be prouder of all the officers and investigators involved in getting this out-of-control serial burglary suspect into custody to account for his crimes.”

Businesses that fell victim to Goldberg’s alleged burglary spree include two locations of Willie’s Mexicana Grill, On the Border, Cafe at Pharr, Board Room Salon, Toast on Lenox, Kale Me Crazy and Casseroles to Go, among several others.

Police said they were able to identify Goldberg as a suspect thanks to similarities noted by detectives that appeared at several burglary scenes. Enough evidence was gathered to obtain warrants for Goldberg on charges related to 12 burglaries, and interviews after his arrest led to further charges, police said.
