The incident took place Nov. 21 during daytime hours on Baker Street by Centennial Olympic Park and the World of Coca-Cola, police said.
Officials released a video of the attack with the victim obscured. In the footage, the victim and suspect are walking in opposite directions on the sidewalk when the suspect, apparently unprovoked, suddenly punches the woman in the face. The video shows her falling to the ground immediately while the suspect stumbles backward, then falls to the ground himself. He quickly gets to his feet and approaches the woman on the ground, pausing briefly before beginning to run across the street.
The footage shows at least six witnesses in the immediate area, including two people walking directly behind the woman. Both of those witnesses, who were closest to the attack, quickly backed away after the man’s punch.
A second surveillance video shows the suspect walking up another downtown Atlanta street near Centennial Olympic Park. As he walks by a large commercial building, the man removes his jacket and tosses it aside, leaving it on the sidewalk.
Police have not released further information about the case, including the age of the victim or a reason for the attack. They also did not say if the suspect took anything from the victim.
