A man suspected of killing another man in a North Georgia home and then setting it on fire this week was shot by state troopers as they arrested him, according to the GBI.
Gordon County deputies were called about a shooting at a home on James Street near Resaca around 7:30 p.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office said. When they arrived, they found the home in flames.
The fire department fought the blaze for hours before it was extinguished, and a body was recovered, officials said. Authorities have not released the name of the person who died. The home burned to the ground.
Investigators identified Christopher Lee Dixon, 46, of Resaca, as the suspect. He was later found hiding in a crawl space under a mobile home on Daisy Street, about a quarter mile away from the burned home, the GBI said.
The Georgia State Patrol’s SWAT team was called to help remove Dixon from the crawl space. Troopers used a Taser on Dixon, but he continued fighting, the GBI said. During the struggle, troopers shot him, the agency said, noting that he had been armed with a rifle.
“After Dixon was shot, he continued to fight the troopers and resist arrest,” the GBI said.
Eventually, Dixon was taken into custody and then taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Once he is released, he will be booked into the Gordon County jail, where he will face several charges, including murder, the sheriff’s office said.
The GBI has been asked to investigate 11 officer-involved shootings so far in 2025, including three this week.
