A man was fatally shot Thursday at an apartment complex in Cobb County, police said.
Officers responded to Cobblestone Apartments on Pat Mell Road, off Austell Road and near the Dobbins Air Reserve Base, shortly before 1 a.m. A man was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital, police spokesman Sgt. Eric Smith said in a news release.
The victim, identified by police as 44-year-old Dequelle Williamson, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Smith said the incident remains under investigation, and no other details were released about what led to the shooting. A description of the suspect was not released.
Cobblestone Apartments is among 272 of the metro area’s persistently dangerous complexes, according to an investigation by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that looked into serious crimes, lax maintenance and other hazards in Atlanta neighborhoods. From 2017 through March 5, 2023, police reported 37 crimes at the complex, including five aggravated assaults and eight robberies.
