Investigators collected two witness statements from bystanders, but no further details have been released.

According to his obituary, Mediate was a former varsity football player at St. Francis High School, from which he graduated in 2016. He attended Kennesaw State University and earned Dean’s List honors there in his final two years before graduating in 2020.

“He was a passionate fisherman followed closely by his love of cars,” Mediate’s obituary said. “Connor uniquely combined an independent spirit and strong will with kind-heartedness and warmth that made him an infectious personality.”

Mediate is survived by his parents, Tara and Joe Mediate of Alpharetta, and two brothers, Ryan and Sean, his obituary said. A memorial service was held Tuesday morning at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Roswell. In lieu of flowers, the Mediate family has asked for donations to be made to Ocean Cleanup.

Alpharetta police are requesting help from the public in the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 678-297-6307. Investigators are asking callers to leave their names and callback numbers along with their tips.
