A man accused in a fatal shooting in Clayton County was arrested Friday, officials said.

Javin Alejandro Fonseca, 20, was booked into the Clayton jail and is facing a charge of malice murder, online records show. According to the sheriff’s office, Riverdale police obtained a warrant for his arrest following a shooting Jan. 14 at a gas station in the 300 block of Ga. 138.

Police responded to the scene and found a 16-year-old dead from multiple gunshot wounds to his back, the sheriff’s office said. A witness told police that he saw three men talking at the gas station, then suddenly saw them run off, followed by at least three gunshots, an incident report details.

In a previously released announcement, Riverdale police said the victim and victim’s friend “stole the suspect’s marijuana and ran from him,” which led to the suspect pursuing them and shooting the victim.

Detectives were eventually able to identify Fonseca as a suspect, and the Clayton Sheriff’s Office subsequently placed him on the “Most Wanted” list, authorities said.

It wasn’t long before Fonseca was located at a residence in Forest Park, but law enforcement said it wasn’t until Friday that he was booked into jail.
