The Downtown Connector was completely shut down for more than two hours in both directions as commuters tried to get home Friday evening.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the interstate was blocked near Peachtree and Pine streets at around 6 p.m. Footage from the scene showed a heavy police presence.

Atlanta police confirmed they responded to the area with medical personnel. Officials started leaving the area around 8:30 p.m., allowing for traffic to begin moving again.

Motorists should use Northside Drive, Peachtree Street or I-285 as alternates routes until traffic clears up.
