Investigators believe at least 50 gunshots were fired Saturday morning when a graduation party in a Fayette County neighborhood swelled to nearly 200 guests, most of whom were not invited.

Two males were shot and taken to a hospital, and their ages and conditions were not provided Tuesday. According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, only 25 people were expected to attend the party at a home on Annelise Park Drive off Flat Creek Trail — until it was advertised on social media.

Close to 200 guests arrived, crowding into a cul-de-sac, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies were called about 12:20 a.m. when multiple shots were heard in the area.

“Each year Fayette County deputies and Investigators respond to similar parties near the end of the school year,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook. “Many have a similar outcome where too many unwanted guests arrive and the overcrowding and often alcohol leads to arguments and gunfire. These parties have unfortunately ended in injury and death over the last several years.”

In addition to the two people shot, multiple vehicles parked in the cul-de-sac were damaged by gunfire, the agency said. Two guns were recovered from the scene, but investigators believe at least two others were involved in the shooting.

No suspect information was released.
