A street racing incident in Roswell over the weekend led to three arrests and a few scary moments for an officer whose patrol car was surrounded by people from the crowd of onlookers.

According to Roswell police spokesman Officer Tim Lupo, the first officer to arrive at the stunt-driving takeover at the intersection of Houze and Rucker roads Sunday was attacked in her patrol car by members of the crowd. Multiple people approached the police car and began hitting and kicking it, damaging the car’s exterior. The officer was unharmed during the attack.

When additional officers arrived, police were able to break up the intersection takeover and arrest three people, Lupo said. Investigators expect to make additional arrests after a number of participants in the crowd were clearly captured in video footage from the first officer’s dashboard camera, Lupo added.

Because the investigation remains active, police said they are not able to release the dashcam footage.

More video has been shared by witnesses and lifted from social media, and Lupo said there has been a strong community response to the police department’s social media posts requesting new information and videos from the incident.

Police are asking anyone with further information, videos or photos related to Sunday’s incident to email TrafficEnforcement@roswellgov.com.
