Decatur police are asking the public for help to locate David Denson, 41, of Atlanta, who is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting Tuesday.

Decatur police are asking for the public’s help to locate a suspect in a deadly shooting Tuesday night just blocks from downtown.

David Denson, 41, is wanted on a murder charge in connection with the death of Perry Riley, 53, of Atlanta. Riley was found wounded by police shortly before midnight at a residence in the 700 block of Atlanta Avenue, which houses the Park Trace apartment complex.

He died at a hospital, making his case the city’s first homicide in 2023, according to police spokesperson Sgt. John Bender.

Denson, who is also from Atlanta, is the sole suspect in Riley’s death, Bender said Thursday. No information on motive was released, and police did not say if a connection exists between Denson and the victim.

Anyone with information on Denson’s whereabouts is asked to call 911. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,500, by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
