A closer look at Atlanta’s homicide victims and suspects in 2024, compiled from police data and incident reports:

  • Of the 127 homicide victims, 114 were Black, eight were white, four were Hispanic and one was Asian; 111 victims were male and 16 female.
  • Of the suspects arrested, 96 were Black and four were white; 93 suspects were male and seven female.
  • Arrests were made or the cases were otherwise closed in 100 homicides by mid-January. The others remained under investigation.
  • Two suspects were 16. The oldest suspect was a 65-year-old Black woman.
  • The youngest homicide victim was 6-month-old Armoni Scruggs, who was pronounced dead Jan. 21, 2024, at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding. An autopsy determined Armoni died from blunt force trauma. Her parents were later charged with murder.
  • The oldest homicide victim was 90-year-old Chun-ki Kim. Kim was allegedly stabbed more than 50 times by Janet Denise Williams, a security guard in his Buckhead building.
  • 32 of those killed were 21 and under; 28 suspects were 21 and younger.
  • Handguns were used in 101 homicides and rifles used in six cases. Knives were used to kill 12 victims. Six victims died from blunt force trauma and two other victims were strangled.
  • Of the six Atlanta police zones, the East Atlanta precinct saw the fewest homicides. The zone’s commander, Maj. William Ricker, said the city’s camera system, which has more than 20,000 integrated cameras, and the community support and assistance has helped in solving crimes.

Zone 1 (Northwest Atlanta): 36

Zone 2 (North Atlanta): 10

Zone 3 (Southeast Atlanta): 33

Zone 4 (Southwest Atlanta): 21

Zone 5 (Downtown): 20

Zone 6 (East Atlanta): 7
