Two young men were shot to death near Clayton State University late Wednesday, according to officials.

Clayton police told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution they were called at about 9 p.m. to Trammel Road, which borders the university on its east side. There, they found the two victims, who were declared dead at the scene near the east entrance of campus. The victims were not students, the university said in a statement.

“While this is a concerning situation, please be assured that there is currently no indication of any immediate threat to our campus community,” officials said.

Investigators told Channel 2 Action News they believe a group of about four young men was walking down the street and got into an argument. Tensions escalated to gunfire, and the two others ran away. The news station identified the victims as two men, ages 18 and 20.

University officials said anyone who needs support “during this difficult time” can contact their counseling services at 678-466-4940.
