South Fulton firefighters were on the scene of a fatal crash at Jonesboro and Bethsaida roads Tuesday afternoon. Two people were killed in the wreck.

A couple died in a crash in South Fulton on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Police are investigating the two-vehicle wreck, which occurred at the intersection of Jonesboro and Bethsaida roads.

Police identified the victims as 82-year-old Leon Watson and his 79-year-old wife Christine, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Police did not give details on what led up to the crash. There have been a rise in the number of fatal crashes and wrecks resulting in serious injury in the Jonesboro Road and Old National Highway corridors, according to the police department.

South Fulton officers and state troopers staged a traffic crackdown at the intersection Wednesday and issued 20 citations ranging from speeding to seatbelt violations, police said.
