A 6-year-old boy remained in critical condition Monday after being hit by gunfire over the weekend in DeKalb County, police said.

The boy, who has not been identified, was in the intensive care unit at a local hospital, DeKalb County police Lt. Lonzy Robertson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police said the boy was playing in the living room of a home in the 3500 block of Sweetgum Lane when an altercation between the shooter and the residents of the home escalated Saturday afternoon.

The gunman fired multiple shots into the house, and the boy was hit. He was taken to a local hospital. Police said he was the only person hurt.

The shooter left the scene in an unknown vehicle, according to police.

Authorities have identified him, but are not releasing his name, Robertson said. He is not in custody.

Investigators are trying to identify others who may have been involved in the shooting, Robertson said.
