A 2-year-old girl was killed and her 5-month-old sister was critically injured after an SUV carrying a family of five crashed, Clayton County police said.
About 6 p.m. Sunday, police were called to a wreck on I-75 North near Charles W. Grant Parkway.
According to authorities, a blue sedan with a New York tag failed to maintain its lane and entered the path of the family’s 2011 Ford Explorer.
“In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver of the Explorer swerved and then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to go into a barrel roll,” Clayton County police Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said. It is unclear if the occupants were ejected from the SUV.
The blue sedan continued on I-75 North.
The 2-year-old died at the scene, Marbury said. The 5-month-old girl was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
The victims’ parents and 4-year-old sister were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Their identities have not been released.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on the crash to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
