A woman was charged with aggravated assault after she allegedly cut and stabbed her husband Wednesday morning in their Gainesville home, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Oscar Acevedo-Avalos, 58, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious injuries and remains in critical condition, sheriff’s spokesman Derreck Booth said.

About 7:50 a.m., deputies responded to a dispute in the 3000 block of Jasmine Court in the east Hall County area.

Authorities said Acevedo-Avalos’ wife, Cecelia Acevedo, stabbed him 10 minutes before a 911 call regarding the incident. After the alleged assault, deputies said Cecelia Acevedo, 55, turned the knife on herself.

Cecelia Acevedo was taken to the hospital, where she remains in stable condition. She will be booked into the Hall County jail when she is released.

The couple’s children, ages 5 and 16, were inside the home at the time but were asleep, Booth said. The children are with other family members.

A motive has not been determined.
