A woman was shot in Grant Park on Thursday afternoon while confronting four men who were breaking into vehicles, Atlanta police said.

The woman was driving north on Park Avenue just before 3 p.m. when she saw the burglary suspects and confronted them through her driver’s-side window, Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer TaSheena Brown said.

As the woman spoke to them, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot toward her vehicle, grazing the woman’s leg. All four men then ran away, police said. They were last seen headed toward Grant Park.

Atlanta police sent a helicopter to search for the suspects, one of whom was reportedly wearing a fur coat. As of 5:30 p.m., they had not been caught.

The woman was taken to Atlanta Medical Center, authorities said. Brown said investigators were sent to the hospital to speak with her to get a description of the suspects.

The shooting prompted a brief lockdown at nearby Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School, administrators said in an email to parents.

As a precaution, the school’s elementary campus was placed on an “interior lockdown” and a school resource officer was sent to the middle school campus to monitor activity during dismissal, Executive Director Chuck Meadows wrote.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Atlanta police.
