A woman has died after her husband shot her Sunday near Conyers, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on Habersham Way about 11:55 a.m., and Lisa LaShawn Samuel Bell’s husband opened fire on them, according to authorities.
Three children, ages 7, 10 and 17, were at the home at the time.
Deputies returned fire, but did not hit 41-year-old Letron Jemone Bell or anyone else, according to the sheriff’s office.
About the same time, Lisa Bell “ran out of the home with the suspect following her into a nearby wooded area,” the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies followed and found Lisa Bell with a gunshot wound. She was taken to Piedmont Hospital-Rockdale, where she was later pronounced dead.
Letron Bell was taken into custody. He was being held Monday in the county jail on multiple charges, including three counts of cruelty to children, two counts of aggravated assault against law enforcement, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and one count of felony murder.
Neighbor Greg Parks told Channel 2 Action News he was heading home when he heard three gunshots.
Parks said when he pulled into his driveway, he saw a person in his backyard with a gun and a huge police presence.
Parks' fiance shot video from her bedroom as deputies told the suspected shooter to put his gun down, according to Channel 2.
“They brought in other tactical officers and shot him with bean bags and took him down," Parks said.
