A woman was fatally shot in front of her 3-year-old daughter Friday evening inside a DeKalb County motel room, police said.

The woman, identified Saturday as 20-year-old Akiela Peters-Williams, was shot by her boyfriend at the Budget Inn and Suites on Memorial Drive, DeKalb police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said.

When officers arrived shortly after 6 p.m., the 3-year-old girl was still inside the room. Peters-Williams was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died, authorities said.

Her boyfriend, 22-year-old Shadrac Nkrumah of Atlanta, was arrested late Friday on charges of felony murder and cruelty to children, DeKalb County Jail records show.

The little girl, who is not Nkrumah’s daughter, was turned over to her relatives, Vincent said.

Nkrumah remains held without bond at the DeKalb Jail.
