An armed father warned a naked man at a Newton County park many times to leave and get some clothes. When he returned, still nude, and allegedly approached his children, the father pulled out his gun, Channel 2 Action News reported.
“Not only did he come back naked, he ran directly up to my kids and the mother of my child, and they were frightened,” Tae Lovelace told Channel 2.
Lovelace told the news station he was at Trailblazer Park in Covington with his family and fellow church members to feed the less fortunate July 22. He then spotted Josten Meeler, 21, naked in the park and asked him to leave, which he did.
“It’s a family event, so everybody out here was pretty much frightened,” Lovelace told Channel 2. “So at that point and time, I go and get my firearm.”
When the man returned and tried to approach his kids at a playground, that’s when Lovelace pulled out his gun and chased him, while his grandmother called 911, Channel 2 reported.
Lovelace also pulled out his phone and recorded the incident. The video shows Lovelace, wielding his handgun, chase Meeler off a nearby bridge and into a shallow creek when police arrive.
“Had I not been licensed to carry at that moment, who knows what this guy could have done to my family or any of the other families that were here,” Lovelace told the news station.
Meeler was arrested and taken to the Newton County Jail. He has been charged with child molestation, public indecency and being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Channel 2 reported.
