Four trucks full of equipment that belonged to a Newton County landscaping business were stolen by a group of thieves, police said.
Surveillance video outside of Great Estates Landscaping allegedly show the trucks drive off one by one, carrying equipment valued at over $120,000, Channel 2 Action News reported. It took them about 20 minutes to carry out the heist.
The company’s president, Allen Clemons, told Channel 2 he didn’t believe this could happen, since his building is well-secured.
“It’s completely fenced in. It’s barbed wire. There are cameras everywhere,” Clemons said. “We have keys that are locked behind two doors, locked inside a box with an alarm system.”
However, Clemons said the thieves didn’t even need the keys. Police told Channel 2 the theft might’ve been carried out with someone familiar with the business.
“Whoever they were, they had some kind of inside knowledge of the business, and they knew what they were looking for,” Covington police spokesman Justin Scott said.
Police said the group headed towards I-20, and a search is being conducted.
