Eight Forsyth County school buses were damaged over the weekend, causing them to be taken out of commission during Monday morning’s route, officials confirmed.

Forsyth County deputies are searching for the vandals who smashed the headlights and stole gas caps and vehicle tags at Lakeside Middle School, Forsyth County School District spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo told AJC.com.

Caracciolo said they had to bring in backup buses to complete the morning route. The buses, which are valued at nearly $400,000, were repaired in time for the afternoon route. It took about $400 to repair the buses.

Caracciolo said investigators found fingerprint evidence on three of the damaged buses, and one of the stolen gas caps was found nearby.

She said the school district is looking to increase security features for the bus lot.
