Eleven people, including two teenagers, were arrested Sunday during a crackdown on illegally operating ATVs and dirt bikes on city streets, Atlanta police said.

It was part of a joint operation between Atlanta police and the Georgia State Patrol, Atlanta police Sgt. John Chafee said in a statement. During the operation, police conducted 20 traffic stops that yielded 11 arrests, 11 citations and the recovery of six firearms, two of which were stolen. Ten off-road vehicles and four cars were also impounded.

“(We) worked together to target several areas in the city where we have experienced these illegal activities in the past,” Chafee said.

On the day of the arrests, a driver of a dirt bike was killed after crashing into a Dodge Charger at the intersection of Sylvan Road and Dill Avenue, the Georgia State Patrol said. A passenger on the bike was listed in stable condition Sunday evening. Police did not release a change in condition Monday.

Among those arrested Sunday was Jakhari Caldwell and Cedric Brown, both 17, after they fled a traffic stop in a car, police said. Police said Caldwell lost control of the vehicle and drove into a wooded area before he and Brown ran from the scene. They were arrested after a brief chase.

Police said they found a stolen firearm and six grams of marijuana in the vehicle. Brown and Caldwell are also purported DFW gang members.

Other arrests included:

• Diamon Clay, 32, and Kenneth Blessitt, 31, who police determined were felons in possession of a firearm. Police said Clay’s gun was stolen.

• Gregory Lewis, 41, was arrested during a traffic stop involving a stalled ATV. Police said Lewis gave them a fake driver’s license and was found to be a felon. Police also said he had a firearm.

• Police arrested Javaris Bell, 28, who also had an active warrant out for his arrest. Bell allegedly had half a gram of marijuana.

• Brandon Miller, 23, and Jessie Brown, 27, had firearms and seven grams of marijuana during their arrest, police said. Adrean Hill, 46, also allegedly had two grams of marijuana and was arrested during a separate traffic stop.

• Jeffrey Zachary, 40, and Henry Rower, 23, were arrested during a traffic stop on two dirt bikes driving on city streets and sidewalks.

• Two other teens — a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old — were issued a citation after they were stopped on a dirt bike and ATV. Police released them to their guardians.
