A month after Atlanta police found Deante Benton’s body outside an apartment complex, authorities arrested the suspected shooter at a home in Marion, S.C.

Mariol Rawls was arrested Aug. 17 by the United States Marshals service, according to a police report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Rawls was identified as a person of interest a day after the shooting.

Benton, a father of four, had just celebrated his 29th birthday when he was shot and killed July 16 in the 2000 block of Bent Creek Way, The AJC previously reported. He suffered gunshot wounds to the head and torso and died at the scene.

A second victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds to both legs.

Police said the shooting may have started as an argument.

Rawls remains in the Fulton County jail on murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges.
