Two students were arrested Tuesday morning after a firearm was discovered at Winder-Barrow High School, authorities said.

The school resource officer received a tip that a student had a gun about 8:40 a.m., Barrow County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Maj. Ryan Sears said in a news release.

The officer found the student and was able to take possession of the gun without incident, authorities said. While investigating, authorities learned that another student had brought the gun to school before handing it off to their friend, authorities said.

Both students were taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm on school property. Because both are juveniles, their names were not released.

“There is no evidence of any intent by either of the juveniles to use the gun on campus,” Sears said.
