A Roswell elementary school teacher was killed Saturday after being hit by a van while crossing the street, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Sue Scheer, 46, was an adaptive physical education and special needs teacher with the Fulton County School District for 18 years, Channel 2 reported.
She had worked at Vickery Mill Elementary School, Mountain Park Elementary School and Roswell High School. the news station reported. She also coached lacrosse at one point.
Roswell police told Channel 2 that Scheer was likely leaving Lucky’s Burger & Brew on Alpharetta Street when a van hit her while she was crossing the highway.
“We believe she was leaving Lucky’s, and a vehicle traveling northbound had struck (Scheer),” Roswell police spokeswoman Lisa Holland said. “Unfortunately, she died right there on the scene.”
Holland said the driver didn’t see Scheer and likely won’t face charges, Channel 2 reported. It’s unknown whether she was in a marked crosswalk when she was hit.
The school district sent the news station a statement on the incident that said:
“Ms. Scheer, who most referred to as Sue, impacted many during her time with us and will be greatly missed by our community, teachers, staff and students. Our principals are currently working closely with our Counseling Psychological Social Work Services Department to offer support to our students and faculty during this difficult time.”
On Sunday, the restaurant posted a message on Facebook that said, in part: “With a heavy heart, we are saddened to share the loss of a member of Lucky’s family, Sue Scheer ... Please keep Sue and her family in your hearts and prayers.”
