Marietta police arrested a 24-year-old man Tuesday in the shooting death of his father, Officer Chuck McPhilamy said.

Daniel Walden Attaway is charged with murder in the death of Douglas Wayne Attaway, 59, police said.

Douglas Attaway was shot Saturday in the basement of his home in the 500 block of Hardage Farm Drive, McPhilamy said.

The incident was initially reported via 911 by his son, police said in a statement.

“The detailed investigation by Marietta police detectives led to sufficient evidence to charge Daniel Attaway with the murder of his father,” McPhilamy said.

Daniel Attaway will be booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, also charged with aggravated assault with the intent to murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony.
