One man died and another was critically injured after a shootout early Friday in southwest Atlanta, police said.
Officers responded to the double shooting just before 4:15 a.m. and found a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old in a vehicle in the 2200 block of Star Mist Drive, police spokesman Donald Hannah said in a statement. One had been shot in the head and the other had been shot in the abdomen.
Both were rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Hannah said. One was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other was heading into surgery.
A third person in the vehicle, an 18-year-old man who witnessed the shooting from the backseat, was not injured.
According to police, the three men were parked outside a residence in the 3200 block of Dale Lane when they became involved in an altercation with a second group of men and started shooting at each other.
They then drove to a family member’s home on Star Mist Drive before seeking medical attention.
“Preliminary information shows the vehicle that the victims and witness were in was stolen in a robbery out of Fulton County,” Hannah said.
A gun stolen out of DeKalb County was found near one of the men, according to police.
“Our homicide unit is working to gather additional information and develop any available leads,” Hannah said.
