A man is accused of abducting his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son after a dispute with the woman’s father on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident began about 1:30 p.m., when deputies were called to a home off Country Court near Auburn, the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
The alleged abductor, whose name has not been released, went to the house to pick up a few things while his girlfriend was at work, Sheriff Jud Smith told Channel 2 Action News. However, the woman’s father was home, and the two men got into an argument.
The dispute developed into a tussle, which ended with the father suffering slight injuries and the suspect fleeing the scene with the child, Smith said. The suspect is not the boy’s biological father, and it’s unclear why he allegedly abducted the child.
Auburn police, Gwinnett County police and a Georgia State Patrol helicopter assisted Barrow County deputies in searching for the suspect, Smith said. Nearly two hours later, they found the man and child walking along Wages Road.
The child, who was not harmed, was returned to his mother and grandfather, while the suspect was detained for questioning. It’s unclear what charges the man will face.
