A distinctive hat with lettering "Selfie" helped officers identify and arrest a suspected jewelry thief.

Police said 65-year-old James Anderson went into the Hyannis K-Mart and cut security wires from one of the jewelry case displays. He put the entire display case in a shopping cart and left the store, police said. K-Mart estimated there was $10,000 worth of gold jewelry in the case.

Officers had a description of the thief and his vehicle based on the store surveillance video. Police said that in the video, Anderson was wearing a winter hat that had the word "Selfie" on the front.

Later that night, an officer saw a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop. Immediately the officer noticed the driver was wearing the same "Selfie" hat and clothing that was observed on surveillance video. Police said Anderson also had a pair of wire cutters in the vehicle, along with jewelry that had K-Mart price tags.

Police arrested Anderson and charged him with larceny over $250 and possession of burglarious tools. Police said he has an extensive criminal history, with 78 arraignments consisting of breaking and entering, larcenies, shoplifting and narcotics.
