A Rockdale County detention center official was arrested after he admitted to sexually assaulting a female inmate, authorities confirmed.

Deputy Aaron Frank was taken into custody Friday after confessing to the assault during an interview, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Rockdale Sheriff Eric J. Levett said the arrest happened less than 24 hours after he was notified of the incident.

The alleged sexual assault happened in the laundry facility of the Rockdale jail’s women’s annex Aug. 28 or Aug. 29, the statement said. The alleged victim and several witnesses spoke to investigators about the incident, the statement said.

Frank is charged with improper sexual contact with an inmate and violation of oath of office, jail records show.

Levett said the decision on whether to fire the deputy will be made in an administrative due process hearing.

“I cannot express my displeasure and disappointment enough in Deputy Frank’s actions,” Levett said. “I hold every one of my employees at a different level of accountability and there is a level of community trust that is associated with this career.”
