A Kennesaw man thought he sent a nude photo of himself to a child, but he actually messaged an undercover detective, police said.

Jason Matthew McGuire, 43, faces five felonies after the child sex sting, Floyd County police Sgt. Chris Fincher told AJC.com. McGuire allegedly thought he was messaging someone under the age of 16.

In addition to sending the lewd photo, he tried to solicit nude pictures from the person he was messaging, Fincher said.

Authorities said he also drove to Floyd County with hopes of meeting and sexually abusing the person, who he thought was a child. That led to his arrest Thursday, jail records show.

McGuire faces counts of aggravated child molestation, sexual exploitation of children, electronic enticement, obscene internet contact with a child and sending obscene materials to a minor. He remains in jail without bond.

The Rome News-Tribune obtained McGuire's mug shot, and AJC.com has reached out to the Floyd County Sheriff's Office for more information on his custody.
