Some carried bouquets of flowers, while others hugged and wiped away tears. Family and friends gathered Tuesday for a visitation for a little girl killed by gunfire.

Secoriea Turner should have been preparing to start third grade. But the 8-year-old was killed July 4 while she rode in a car with her mother and a family friend off University Avenue, not far from where Rayshard Brooks was killed by an Atlanta police officer.

Brooks' death sparked countless protests where a Wendy's restaurant previously stood. It was demolished Tuesday morning.

Investigators believe Secoriea was shot after her mother encountered an unauthorized roadblock. Charmaine Turner, Secoriea’s mother, said when her daughter was hit, she called out “mama” or “mommy.”

But by Tuesday afternoon, no arrests had been made despite Turner’s pleas the day before.

“Somebody knows something,” Charmaine Turner said Monday. “Call me. I just want to know why.”

On Tuesday, Turner attended the visitation for her daughter at Murray Brothers Funeral Home. A private funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday for Secoriea at New Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta. The service will be live-streamed.

Secoriea attended Kipp Ways Primary School. Some of her classmates were among those attending the visitation.
