A prostitute was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday for torturing and murdering a southeast Atlanta client five years ago.
Tamieka Gamble, 40, was found guilty in the death of 64-year-old Edward Jowers, who was discovered bound and gagged on the bathroom floor of his home on Aug. 9, 2010.
Police found Jowers after his property manager conducted a welfare check at the home, according to a Fulton County District Attorney press release sent Thursday.
Investigators determined Gamble and her “boyfriend/pimp” Mark Ross visited the Magnolia Park apartment and — instead of offering services — “tied the victim’s arms and legs with cables, covered his head with linens and repeatedly slashed his back with a knife while demanding money,” according to the release. Gamble and Ross then fled the scene and left Jowers to die from “mechanical asphyxiation.”
The case went cold until 2014, when investigators found a cigarette butt with Ross’ DNA on it at the scene of the crime. Gamble was later named a suspect and they both confessed to killing Jowers.
Authorities determined Gamble orchestrated the entire crime.
Gamble was sentenced to life in prison without parole, followed by 15 years in prison.
