A property owner in south Fulton County has been jailed in connection with a fire that has been burning on his property since September, officials said.

Tandy R. Bullock is in the East Point Jail for failing to take necessary action to “address this urgent situation,” city spokeswoman Jolene Butts Freeman said in a statement.

Bullock will be in jail until a bond hearing Wednesday, she said.

"I cannot even walk outside without putting a mask on," 85-year-old Helen Goddard, who is battling leukemia, said in October.

“It is important that we as a city protect the quality of life in our community, especially as it has to do with issues pertaining to the environment,” Mayor Bill Edwards said. “Our goal in this matter is to enforce strict compliance and restore the property involved back to its useful purpose.”
