Deputies are searching for the owner of two dogs who killed two miniature horses in Pickens County last week.
The owners of Prissey and Sparky, the two horses, were devastated Friday morning when the dogs ran onto their property off Old Philadelphia Road and straight for the horses, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
“I call them babies, and seeing them tore up like they was — it was pretty horrific,” Stella Morgan told Channel 2 Action News. “Nobody should have to see it.”
One dog was described as a red pit bull with a wide, red collar, while the second was a mix between a pit bull and a boxer and was brown and gray, the sheriff’s office said.
Morgan’s husband, Larry, told Channel 2 he fired his gun at the two dogs, but he missed. The gunfire scared the dogs off instead.
“I shot to kill them. I didn’t shoot to scare them,” he said.
The sheriff’s office said the dogs’ owner could face charges. The Morgans hope the owner comes forward before they hurt more animals or people.
“We thank God that it wasn’t two little children,” Stella Morgan said. “This should not have happened and the owner knows, because if it had a collar, it had an owner.”
Anyone who comes across the dogs is asked to call 911.
