A 17-year-old woman was shot to death and a man, 19, was in critical condition after a domestic dispute turned violent, Clayton County police said.
About 9 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a shooting in the 7600 block of Briar Crest Court in Riverdale, Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.
According to the woman’s family, the man (father of the woman’s child) came to the residence shortly before the shooting happened, police said. They were engaged in a conversation downstairs.
“Family members, who were upstairs in the residence with the couple’s 8-month-old child, went to investigate the sound of gunfire downstairs and found both parties laying on the floor of the home, suffering from gunshot wounds,” Marbury said. “The preliminary investigation revealed that the male shot the female before turning the gun on himself.”
The woman was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after 11 a.m.
Police said there is an active protection order against the man through the Fulton County court system
The child is with the mother’s family, police said.
