On Monday, a man in Hall County led Oakwood police on a multi-county car chase, ultimately escaping and abandoning his vehicle in DeKalb County.

Police are searching for a man accused of leading multiple Georgia law enforcement agencies on a car chase Monday after striking an Oakwood police vehicle and officer.

According to Lt. Todd Templeton of the Oakwood Police Department, an officer saw the man speeding on McEver Road near Lake Lanier in Hall County. When the officer tried to pull the car over, the man slowed down but did not stop. Eventually, he was stopped by traffic at the intersection of Mundy Mill Road and Thurmon Tanner Parkway, where he was surrounded by other officers.

When they ordered the man out of the car, he reversed into the police car behind him and then drove toward an officer. The officer was hit, but not injured.

The man was able to free his vehicle and make a run for the interstate. Templeton said police chased the car to I-985 and continued the pursuit into Gwinnett County, then DeKalb County.

The man eventually escaped police in DeKalb, where officers found the abandoned vehicle.

Oakwood police were assisted in the chase by Hall County sheriff’s deputies, both the police department and sheriff’s office in Gwinnett and the Georgia State Patrol.

Oakwood police are actively pursuing several leads to find out the man’s identity.
