Police arrested a suspect after a man was shot and critically injured near Georgia State University’s Perimeter College in Clarkston on Monday.

Just before 12:45 p.m., officers found the victim in the 3700 block of Memorial College Avenue, DeKalb County police said. The location is near the college campus, James R. Hallford Stadium and Clarkston High School.

Georgia State University police Chief Joseph P. Spillane told AJC.com that this incident “is not related to Georgia State University in any way. It occurred on private property near an entrance to the Georgia State campus.”

DeKalb officers said the injured man is in his late 40s. He was taken to a hospital, where he’s in critical condition.

Police identified the shooter as the victim’s neighbor, adding that the men got into an argument before the gunfire. Maurice Thabiti Veasey, 44, turned himself in Monday evening.

He faces an aggravated assault charge, according to jail records. He remains in custody without bond.
