Atlanta police said the man suspected of robbing four Georgia Tech students at gunpoint in late January is a felon who has been to prison three times.

Willie Davis, 38, served time for armed robbery, burglary and auto theft. He is back in jail after police said he told the students to give him all their money and then forced them to drive to an ATM to get more cash.

Authorities said Davis approached the students as they were leaving a Krispy Kreme on Ponce de Leon Avenue just before 10 p.m. on Jan 21.

AJC.com previously reported the young men were first asked for a lighter, and when they could not produce one, Davis allegedly asked for cash. According to a police report, one student handed over $5 but told Davis that was all he had.

Davis then allegedly got inside the victims’ Porsche coupe and pulled out a pistol. While he demanded the victims’ cellphones, another man approached the car.

All six crammed into the coupe, the victims told police, with one alleged robber sitting on the other’s lap in the passenger seat. They told the driver to go to the Wells Fargo on Lee Street and took all of the victims’ phones.

“The suspects made each victim get out of the car one-by-one and withdrew $200 each from the ATM,” police said in the report. “The victims advised one suspect stayed in the vehicle while the other walked each of them separately to the ATM.”

The men then told the victims to drop them off near Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the victims told police.

The group first reported the incident to Georgia Tech police. Atlanta police were called to investigate since it occurred off campus.

Johnson was arrested Feb. 20 and charged with kidnapping and armed robbery. He’s being held in the Fulton County Jail. Police are still trying to identify the second man.
