Authorities are investigating after someone fired shots into the DeKalb County solicitor-general’s home Saturday night while she was there with her family.
Officers responded to Donna Coleman-Stribling’s home in unincorporated Lithonia about 10 p.m. after receiving a call about the shooting, DeKalb police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said Wednesday.
No one was injured, police said, but it’s unclear exactly how many shots were fired into the residence.
According to an incident report obtained by AJC.com, Coleman-Stribling and her husband David were home with their two sons and David Stribling’s aunt when the shooting occurred.
The family told police they heard a car speed away shortly after the shots were fired.
It’s unclear how many shooters there were, but police discovered different types of shell casings in the street in front of the house, according to the report. In addition to their home, the family’s 2012 Nissan SUV was also damaged.
“The DeKalb County Police Department is diligently working with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to identify and arrest the person or persons responsible for the shooting,” DeKalb police said in a statement.
Coleman-Stribling’s office also put out a statement requesting privacy for the solicitor and her family.
As solicitor-general, Coleman-Stribling is tasked with prosecuting DeKalb’s misdemeanor offenses. Those crimes include domestic violence, elder abuse, cruelty to children, vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, harassment and stalking, trespassing and animal cruelty, among others.
Coleman-Stribling won the Democratic primary in 2016 with nearly 54% of the vote and ran unopposed in the general election. Her term expires this year.
Citing the ongoing investigation, police have not released any additional details about the incident.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call DeKalb police at 770-724-7850.
