Investigators believe they may know the type of vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a Paulding County man. But the driver has not been identified, the sheriff’s office said Friday.

Aaron Curtis Quarterman, 24, was struck as he was walked along Dallas-Acworth Highway between 9 p.m. and midnight March 5, sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Ashley Henson said. The Georgia State Patrol was called to investigate the following morning when Quarterman was found dead along the road.

“The suspect vehicle should have damage to the front right portion of the grill, hood and bumper according to troopers,” Henson said in an emailed statement.

Due to evidence left at the scene, investigators believe the vehicle may have been: a 1988-1993 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500 or 3500; a 1988-1993 Chevrolet Tahoe; a 1988-1993 GMC Sierra 1500, 2500 or 3500; or 1988-1993 GMC Yukon. The vehicle may have been blue, white or gray, investigators said.

Anyone with information about the incident or the vehicle is asked to contact the GSP at 706-624-1484 or the Paulding sheriff’s office Criminal Investigations Division at 770-443-3015.

According to an online fundraising page, Quarterman was killed less than two miles from the Somerset neighborhood where he grew up.

"He was well known and respected by his community as a young man who smiled, loved to laugh, and would speak kind words to people he interacted with," the GoFundMe page states. "He loved to pray. Aaron had so much life ahead of him and was due to start a new job at Xtraction Smoothies and Vegan Cafe in Marietta the very day after he was found dead."

A public viewing is planned for Quarterman from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at Sims Funeral Home in Smyrna, according to his online obituary. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
