After exchanging several messages with someone he believed was a teenage girl, an Alabama man made a trip to Cobb County to have sex with her, according to Marietta police.

But when Richard James Parker arrived at an east Cobb restaurant, he was met by officers who arrested him. The 39-year-old was charged with sexual exploitation of a child and obscene telephone contact with a child, according to his arrest warrant.

According to investigators, Parker began communicating with the girl on a dating app in early February. Instead, it was an undercover officer.

“The accused became aware the 13-year-old juvenile girl was not 20 like her profile said and continued the conversation over several days,” Parker’s arrest warrant states. “Said accused told the 13-year-old juvenile he was OK with her age and he liked young girls and the two began to talk about sex.”

Parker asked the girl for sexually explicit photos of herself and sent pictures of himself to her, according to police. The girl told him she would be turning 14 on Feb. 22 and said she was in the eighth grade, the warrant states. Parker told the girl not to let her parents know about their conversations, according to the warrant.

Last Thursday, Parker drove about 100 miles from his Oxford, Alabama, home to a restaurant on Sandy Plains Road, according to police.

He was booked into the Cobb jail, where he was being held on a $25,000 bond Tuesday afternoon, records show.
