Mall security almost stopped an alleged peeping Tom on Wednesday at Perimeter Mall, but the suspect ended up getting away because of miscommunication, authorities said.

The suspect is accused of taking photos or video of unsuspecting men inside one of the mall’s bathrooms, Dunwoody police told Channel 2 Action News.

“The victim advised he was in the restroom on the upper level of the mall when he noticed a man looking into the stall,” Sgt. Robert Parsons said. “The victim contacted mall security and had followed the suspect out to the parking lot.”

However, when one of the alleged victims tried to restrain the suspect, mall security intervened to break up the scuffle, letting the suspect slip away in the process, Channel 2 reported.

“It seems like mall security was just trying to prevent the situation from escalating — not knowing if either individual had a weapon or how bad that could get,” Parsons said.

He told the news station these accusations are “very alarming,” and police want to find the suspect before his alleged actions escalate. Police are working with the mall to try to find security photos of the suspect.

Mall security said they got the suspect’s first name and a phone number from him before he was let go, according to the police incident report, obtained by Channel 2.

A description of the suspect was not provided. The investigation is ongoing.
